The animations work with DaS because everyone is losing their sense of self and going mad. All of the enemies were once great warriors now greatly reduced to an almost bestial state, just like your own PC and the world around you.

They do not work in ER because all the nontarnished characters are zipping around like anime characters while you're moving like a zombie. Both

    Issues with ER:

    >Animations. Your character still moves and attacks like a clumsy hollow while your enemies are now sleek and efficient killing machines, and that a problem. Your character will never have a fraction of the coolness your foes have. It feels like the bosses and my character are from two different games. Compare this to DaS, BB, and Sekiro where a good always player felt as skilled as their opponents. A good Hunter never felt that far behind Maria, and a good Sekiro could style all over Genichiro and even Isshin. You never felt like an NPC in these games like you do in ER.

    >Balance. The game is either too easy or too hard. When I say too hard, I don't mean its unbeatable, I mean that it's not fun to learn. Either you blow through the boss using mimic/Tiche and an OP build, or you spend hours tearing your hair out on lategame/DLC bosses. My first playthrough of ER was as a solo sword and board (medium shield) knight build, and I can't say I had a lot of fun with some of the later bosses. In general, I think bosses should have more health and do less damage. I also think flasks should be faster. Right now, it's very frustrating to learn some of these difficult attack animations because you die too quick and can't recover from mistakes, even when wearing the heaviest armor sets. At the same time, you kill some of these bosses so quick yourself that you might not even get to see their full repertoire.

    >Camera. Many fights become a confusing mess because the camera is way too close to your character. Like I'm fighting a moderately sized enemy that's flopping around. When I get in melee range with the thing, I can only see maybe a third of its body. I end up having to read the attacks of this thing based off of its gut movements. This is the most depressing one for me. Many bosses like ulcerated tree spirit are actually fun with the FOV raised.

    Still love FROM though.

    >The Tarnished probably wasn't a very well trained fighter. He was probably drafted from the Lands Between when he lost grace and thrown out onto the battlefield where he lost his life. That's why he's called the Tarnished of No Renown, because he died an ignominious death. His moveset and movement are purposefully bland and basic. Even regular mooks like the lordsworn show more flourish and skill. That's because he may call himself a warrior, but he's just a normal dude. Look at his run animation. It's very stiff and un-fluid, like he doesn't know how to jog properly in his ill-fitted and uncomfortable armor. Now compare it to an enemy, even a basic one. They prowl about like dangerous predators.

    >This dichotomy is especially heightened when fighting the bosses, who have some of the coolest sets of animations ever in a game. And what about the Tarnished? He's just some regular guy who runs and rolls in the most regular way possible and doesn't even no how to hold or swing his sword properly. He's clumsy and unthreatening next to the enemy's he faces. This is very intentional.

    >FROMsoft can make badass PC animations. They did it with Sekiro. Look at those attack animations and especially the takedowns. They're all screaming that Sekiro is a skilled badass. Bloodborne's Hunter has a ton of skill as well, though it devolves into frenzied bloodletting. The Tarnished is not skilled, he's just a guy, yet he manages to kill the most powerful creatures and gods seen in the whole Souls franchise.

And here they're defending why all the bosses are anime while our PC uses a sword worse than a standard mook.

are right about the player animations making you feel like you're the worse warrior in the Lands Between.

But I don't want to see his goddamn toes I want to actually feel like I'm fighting some ancient, supposedly primordial being and not the equivalent of a mouse biting an elephants toes just to annoy it. The combat either needs to be overhauled for enemies larger than 25feet or they just need to drop them entirely or make them more animalistic like Bloodborne. I mean even then, Bloodborne doesn't frick the camera when fighting Ludwig you can actually see everything he does. If this was ER you would be hitting his hooves.

Fire Giant should have been a gimmick fight in my opinion.

after 5 games that play like that, that sh*t gets pretty stale, that's why Bloodborne and Sekiro stand out and are not considered just more rollslop.
how many Dark Souls clones do these redditors have to play until they realize that they've been playing the exact same sh*t over and over again?

I think from realized the issues with animation discrepancy between bosses and PCs considering they gave us light greatswords in the DLC.

A lot of the weapon ashes in the dlc are multihit too so they realized that was an issue brewing as well.
The amount of successive hit talismans in the base game point to people playing the game wrong from the beginning though.

Successive hits suck in ER because your enemies are poise monsters. Unless you're going for a high poise build as well, getting one big singular attack off is better than multihitting. Like waterfowl should be amazing, but most enemies will just stand their like a big wall and stagger you out of it. I think they really over-corrected from Dark Souls 3 where enemy poise was almost nonexistent.

Explain what's the right way of playing the game then?

It looks pretty obvious from the exchange.

You're implying that combo attacks and combo ashes are the way to play the game, when combos suck.

Then you weren't playing the game properly.

the animations of our players have always worked because they have a semblance of realism (rolling notwithstanding). the anime sh*t and l2 flash is taking away from the series.
